Seek Mutual Aid
Each member builds a profile compiled of a brief introduction of themselves, what goods/services they can offer the community, and what benefit or need they’re seeking from ETM. As a member, you have a network of like-minded neighbors to weather uncertain & tumultuous times with, together.
-
Barter (verb): to trade by exchanging one commodity for another; to trade goods or services in exchange for other goods or services
-
Per Wikipedia’s “Mutual Aid” article, mutual aid “has traditionally been a model where voluntary and collaborative exchanges of resources and services for common benefit take place amongst community members to overcome social, economic, and political barriers to meeting common needs.”
-
Members will use our membership platform to follow the step-by-step instructions for submitting new, large monetary requests for aid. For non-monetary requests or small amounts, members are encouraged to utilize the Marginer Index to browse through what our different members have pledged to contribute and initiate conversation through the platform.

For those leadership-inclined Marginers, consider running for the E-board! Each committee needs to fill each of the following positions:
President
Vice President
Tresurer
Secretary
-
Create your entry for the Marginer Index to clarify the most common goods and services you are able to barter and trade.
Optional: The ability to negotiate personal deals backed by a notarized agreement.
Still not convinced?
While launching the organization, constantly at the founders’ front of mind was the hurdle of gaining exposure, traction, and rapport for such a progressive idea.
Embrace the Margins centers our lived reality when planning our action and output because once observed, it’s clear the strained relationships and fickle trust that plague our communities prevent them from evolving as a collective.
Trust and collaboration are at the foundation of any action we can take to adhere to our mission. Embrace the Margins is committed to doing whatever necessary to convince our neighbors of how much we want them to succeed.
